Property reassessment for 1998 underway in Manitoba
Manitoba moves ahead with market value based property reassessment for the 1998 tax year. Over 400000 households and businesses will receive assessment notices from mid February to mid March to review values with assessors. Open houses across the province running from early March to mid May provide dates and locations for review.

Manitoba To Hit Balanced Budget In 1996 97
Finance Minister Eric Stefanson says the province will achieve a balanced budget in 1996 97 despite expenditure pressures. The third quarter report shows a $55.7 million surplus before extraordinary items, $118.4 million more revenue offset by $84.5 million higher expenditures. Revenue gains stem from prior year tax adjustments and a projected 1996 receipts rise, with retail sales tax up 14 million and 5.2 percent over last year.
