Farmers Seek Ways to Boost Input Cost to Profit Ratio
About 100 Manitoba farmers attended the Manitoba Yield Conference sponsored by Monsanto Canada to boost ROI on farm inputs. Doug Register highlighted wild oat control as key to higher yields with the right herbicide. Across 350 field trials, pre-emergent treatments often outyielded post-emergents, especially when oats were not allowed to reach 2-5 leaf stage. Government studies support that earlier removal preserves wheat yields, ranging 24.5 to 30 bu/acre by leaf stage. Participating area farmers listed for more information include Allen Mathison, Doug Vickery, Garth Short, Gerald Pederson, Leonard Leland.
