Manitoba to hike mill rate for education funding
Education Minister Roland Penner announced a 1.3 mill increase on farm and residential property plus 2.6 mills on commercial property, aiming to raise about 6 million of Manitoba’s 663.4 million provincial schools budget. The hike, first since 1983, could lift the average homeowner’s tax by under 10 dollars, with total household impact around 36 dollars including school division levies. The province offers substantial tax relief: up to 525 dollars for homeowners and tenants, 625 for seniors, and 175 for those over 55 through school tax relief programs. farmers receive up to 500 dollars under the farm school tax assistance program.
