Mrs T Jasper Addresses Hamiota W I Meeting

Mrs T Jasper president of the Womens Institute District Board spoke to Hamiota W I members at the February meeting. She outlined District and Provincial conventions in May and June and discussed the proposed discontinuation of the Physical Fitness program. She noted Ceylon India as a focus with the ACWW Conference in 1956 and urged consideration of UNESCO gift coupons.

The Hamiota Women's Institute met February 1 in the Community Room with Mrs D Rutherford presiding. Mrs E Dixon presented current events while Mrs Jasper reported on the Fall Board meeting and leaders School held at Brandon. Roll call was a Valentine for the Children's Hospital. those absent paid ten cents.

Manufacturers Life Annual Report Highlights 1954 Figures

The Manufacturers Life reports record $31 million in policy payments last year with $2112 million paid to living policy owners and $92 million to beneficiaries of deceased holders. Assets in trust rose $50 million to $599 million with bonds mortgages and stocks composing the portfolio and a 4.39 percent overall interest rate. New business reached $250 million in 1954 and total business in force stood at $1,903 million while the Contingency Reserve and Surplus grew to $38 million.
