Brownies Fly Up to Guides in 1979 80 Transition
The First Hamiota Brownie Pack held a Christmas program December 17 at the Hamiota District Health Centre for patients who received momentoes and sang carols. Five Brownies completed Golden Hand and had a Fly-Up ceremony to Guides January 21 with parents present. Upcoming events include a February 9 skating party and a February 23 Girl Guides tea during Guide- Scout Week as Canada marks Guiding’s 70th anniversary.

Family and friends gathered January 19 in Morley House Shoal Lake to mark Elizabeth Andersons 100th birthday with a Come and Go tea. Messages arrived from Queen Elizabeth II and other diplomatic sources. Born Bell Island Newfoundland she moved to Manitoba in 1906 and has five children, 23 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Out of town guests came from Regina Rosetown North Battleford DArcy Regina Winnipeg Brandon and Thompson Manitoba.

Country Music Convention in Winnipeg Receives $12000 Grant
Manitoba Cultural Affairs Minister Norma Price announced a 12000 grant from lottery funds to support the Big Country convention in Winnipeg September 15 to 21. Funds back a Birds Hill Park festival, rural Manitoba concerts, Winnipeg malls shows, four Centennial Hall fundraisers, a Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra presentation, and university and penal institution exposure concerts.
