Bad weather drives up Autopac claims in Manitoba
Manitoba Public Insurance reports a 15 percent rise in Autopac collision claims due to record snowfalls and severe road conditions since November. Over 3,200 new claims were filed last week versus about 2,500 a year ago, with Environment Canada noting Winnipeg exceeds 99 cm of snow this season.

Winter Driving Course Pioneers Provincial Training Effort
The Community Consultative Group launched a pilot Winter Driving Course in Hamiota with Cpl Gerry Poole, Karen Mathison, John Rankin, and Const Debbie Beck guiding two evenings of instruction. First session drew 15 registrants as instructors highlighted causes of crashes and the dangers of distractions. A sobriety experiment with alcohol impaired coordination followed by Rankin on perception and reaction time, ending with Breathalyzer tests under RCMP supervision. The second session continued January 25 with video demonstrations and driving techniques for winter conditions.
