RCMP Have Strong Lead In Regional Break-Ins

RCMP report a strong lead in a series of break-ins at area grocery stores. Cpl. Gerry Poole of the Hamiota Detachment said details are unavailable but an update is expected next week. The thefts have totaled over $5,000, with cigarettes and food items stolen from Cardale Kenton Oak River Newdale and Rivers Co-ops, including a $5,000 safe and tobacco products.

Water main break disrupts Hamiota households after cold snap

Village of Hamiota faced a water line break on Friday January 22 due to fluctuating freeze thaw cycles. Crews shut down the system because valves froze. water services were restored north of the old railway bed while residents in the south end remained without water over the weekend. The break was along the feed pipe north of Bell's Convenience Store on highway 21 and exact location remained unfixed as of Tuesday morning. A temporary hose hookup to a fire hydrant north of the break supplied some relief. Some homes along the highway drawing directly from the line remained without water into midweek.
