February is Heart Month Campaign Kickoff in Manitoba
The Manitoba Heart Foundation starts its province wide fund raising drive on February 1 to reach a $653,000 target for research and education programs. Eighty eight cents of every Heart Fund dollar supports ongoing programs while twelve cents covers administration. Last year grants of $507,720 aided 28 medical researchers, and over 500 instructors were trained in CPR through the Heart Alert program, urging timely action on heart attack signals.

Legion Auxiliary Meet at Hamiota January 23
Hamiota Ladies' Legion Auxiliary met in the Community Room with 16 members present. The group adopted a $50 donation to the Blind and a $5 gift for the first baby born in 1979. Officers retained for 1979. meeting closed with colours, God Save Our Queen, and a lunch.

U C W Meeting Notes At Mrs Cochran Home
U C W held its annual meeting with ten members present. The group discussed the Child year, hosted the upcoming Birtle Presbyterial executive meeting, donated to Children’s Aid, Cancer Fund, and two Indian Schools, served meals at various events, and contributed $750 to the church board along with other acts of charity and outreach.

Happy Gang Card Party Celebrates Bobby Burns Day
The Hamiota Senior Happy Gang held a January 24 card party with eleven tables in use and 55 members attending. The event featured the Senior Orchestra performing music for Bobby Burns Day, Carolyn Moggach in a Scotch Lassie costume playing bagpipes, and a thank you from President William Hall to Carolyn and the orchestra. After two birthday flowers, lunch was served.
