Shirley Dale, General Manager of the Hamiota Co op, joked for a cost cutting gift. On December 12 the board presented a live turkey to her, amid laughs, before returning the bird to its owner and giving her the usual frozen turkey instead.
Village officials announce a Nano Filtration Unit will be operational by Friday December 20 providing plentiful drinking water after the old plant was shut last Saturday December 14. Residents should see improved supply within a week as the new system is turned on and water reaches households.
The Village of Hamiota council on Nov 20 approved hiring Garry Slimmon to clear sidewalks with a snow blower. Winter meetings shift to the first and third Thursday. The secretary is to bill a business licence, arrange driveway repairs in spring 1997, and write residents about snow removal, water board parts, and a blocking vehicle.
R M of Miniota council met December 10 with attendance by Pauline and Deanna Rowan of the Miniota Museum Avonlea Committee to discuss a proposed display building. Reports covered nursing home, health centre, and vet board matters. finance items included ambulance grants and cemetery funding. A by law on leasing hydrocarbons was passed. several appointments, fees, and schedule closures were set. Reports, allocations, and future meetings defined the final 1996 council actions.
