The Hamiota General U C W met December 11 in the church with Mrs. C Johnston presiding. Officers and units outlined 1970 leadership, finances, membership figures, and meal pricing. a motion to delete the Stewardship and Recruiting office from the General U C W passed.

Hamiota School Band Thrills 500 At Fall Concert

About 500 people attend the Hamiota School Band fall concert in Col legiate auditorium. Three groups from twelve villages perform a Dixieland and classical mix with solos by Majorettes and a trumpet solo by Royce Riddell. The event highlights community support and sets up 1970 as a memorable year amid Manitoba Centennial celebrations.

Calf Club Holds Second 4 H Meeting at Cunmming Home

The Calf Club 4 H met December 2 at Mr and Mrs Allan Cunmming home. Members voted to send funds to the March of Dimes and learned the first two sections of the 4 H Manual. Sharon Gray spoke on basketball and Dale McKinnon on Bobby Clark. Next speakers announced for January 6 at H McKinnon home.

Retiring Reeve Honoured at Hamiota Dinner

Reeve Elmer Seien of Ham iota retires after eight years as Reeve and thirty years on council. Lorne Montgomery and his wife received a coffee table as thanks at a Christmas dinner hosted by Mrs. Amy Grant Mrs. Howard Kirkpatrick and Mr. William Anda ree. Guests were Rural Municipality of Hamiota councillors and spouses.

Cardale W I Holds December Meeting in Church Basement

The Cardale W I met December 10 in the church basement with twenty members and one visitor. Mrs E Cowan opened with the Creed as roll call and gifts to the Mental Hospital were noted. Reports covered Hospital Aid, Red Cross wool for an Afghan, and bazaar funds. Sociables featured a Christmas program by Mrs Roy Espey and Mrs Phyllis Greenaway, with recitations and a Christmas message. A festive lunch concluded the gathering.

McConnell Beef Club Holds Third Meeting

The McConnell Beef Club met December 9, 1969 in the Community Room with twenty members. They sold tickets on a chair to raise funds and heard speeches from 12 to 13 year olds. Next meeting set for December 30 at 1 30 p.m.

Legion Auxiliary Christmas Party Brings Forty Six Members

The Legion Auxiliary held a Christmas Party December 12 in the Community Room with about 46 members and friends. Bingo and carols filled the evening, with prizes won by Mrs J Richardson and Mrs P Robinson and Mr A W Kirk. A lunch followed, prepared by the hostess group.

Ladies Club Meets for Christmas at Mrs Hutchings Home

The Ladies Club held its December 12 Christmas gathering at Mrs. George Hutchings home with 17 members and 7 visiting former members. Final plans were made to pack 11 Christmas boxes for senior citizens. Irene Richey Doris Hutchings and Betty White led the devotional period as Christmas stories and carols were shared.

Oak River W I Christmas meeting chaired by Mrs McPhader

The Oak River W I held its Christmas meeting on Friday evening December Sth with Mrs Frank McPhader in the chair. Mrs Powers volunteered to convene work at Upland Cemetery this year. A Christmas Party followed with a decorated hall and a tree loaded with gifts for Brandon Hospital for Mental Diseases patients.

A Cardale United Church basement shower honored bride elect Gail Primmer on December 12. Guests included her mother Mrs. Primmer and groom’s mother Mrs. McMillan, with songs, a winter sleigh gift presentation, a company boss reading, and a luncheon by the South East Committee.
