Shoot the Puck contest kicks off 1985-86 Southwest Hockey League

CJRB Radio 1220 and Westman Ford-Mercury dealers will run Shoot the Puck at broadcast games with a $10,000 prize toward a new Taurus or Sable. The winner includes oil change and filter at participating dealerships. Three shooters per game from crowd dealer and CJRB listener.

Collegiate Drama Production Gives Christmas Show A New Look

Hamiota hosts a single night Christmas drama on Wednesday December 18 at 7 30 p m. The program blends school band four vocal numbers a small senior high group a large choir of about 60 and two Reader’s Theatre pieces. Grade classes 7 8 and 9 join in festival style selections including The Four Musicians Jack and the Beanstalk and The Pick Up Truck with a flute medley.

Fred Asselstine Receives 60 Year Bar

R W Bro Fred Asselstine was awarded a 60 year bar to his 50 year medal at the Annual District Meeting of the Fifth Masonic District in Foxwar ren Masonic Hall on Saturday November 30. M W Bro Ron Hart Grand Master presented the honor. Asselstine joined Moosomin Lodge No 7 in 1925 and led Hamiota Lodge No 84 as Master in 1959 and 1972. He served as District Deputy Grand Master 1972 73 and is now a member of Strathclair Lodge No 106.

Westman Media re elects Traill chairman for second term

Traill of Neepawa was re elected president and chairman of Westman Media Co operatives board. Other executives include 1st Vice President Marv Borgfjord Dauphin 2nd Vice President Tony Maunder Killarney Secretary Dwight Stewart Birtle Treasurer Manse Binkley Brandon. Traill said the board aims to improve services and seeks approval of two CRTC applications to expand channel 10 11 reception in Brandon Neepawa Minnedosa Carberry Rivers and ten additional communities including Pilot Mound Glenboro Shoal Lake Rossburn Hamiota Erickson Elkhorn Minitonas McCreary Winnipegosis.

Gabrielle Nominated in Virden Constituency Race

Miniota resident Alex Gabrielle was nominated as the Virden candidate for the upcoming election at a November 28 meeting in Miniota. Guest speaker Doug Edmondson of Portage discussed political history while Gabrielle’s extensive public service and C.O.R. party involvement were highlighted.

Ottawa unveils C19 tougher impaired driving law

Justice Minister John C. Crosbie proclaims amendments to the Criminal Code as Chapter 19 of the Statues of Canada 1985. The law imposes longer jail terms and higher fines for impaired driving, with penalties up to 14 years in prison and a 10 year driving prohibition when injuries or deaths occur. Crosbie says the measures address the problem and promote national awareness through an information campaign and community efforts.
