Doctor Drifts to Dunsmuir Tragedy on Fall River
Dr John Steele of Dunsmuir California and Charles Williams drowned in Fall River on a November afternoon in 1937 during a duck hunting trip. The boat sank with four others. three men nearby pulled one survivor to shore while the rest reached the bank. Steele, born in 1900, practiced medicine after studies in Manitoba and stints in Vancouver and San Francisco before moving to Dunsmuir in 1939. He left a wife two young children and brothers Lyle in Edmonton and Bruce in Santa Barbara.
