Education Minister Keith Cosens outlined growth in Manitoba schools at the Union of Manitoba Municipalities meeting. He cited quadrupled Grade 12 output since 20 years ago and expanded programs including vocational and language education, plus rising student transport and special needs provision.

The Hamiota Health Centre Women's Auxiliary met November 23 with 15 districts represented. Officers were elected including Ruth McConnell president and Grace Anderson treasurer. The group reported year income 240 and expenses 146. cart volunteers and donations noted.
Agriculture Minister Jim Downey praised the federal government for extending Churchill port’s shipping season after the freighter Arctic left with 24 500 tonnes of barley for Poland. He noted the port normally handles about half a million tonnes yearly and urged greater utilization to boost Prairie provinces' value.
Manitoba Hydro begins an electric distribution project to serve the Northwest Angle in Minnesota by extending from Sprague Substation through Moose Lake to the border. The 25 000-volt line will start at 12 000 volts, supplying at least 900 kW, replacing the current diesel generator and converting a 35.5 km leg to three phase. Approvals were secured from provincial cabinet, the National Energy Board, the U S Department of Energy, and the International Boundaries Commission.
