Early swathing cuts frost risk in canola crops

Data from the Canola Production Centre in Western Canada 1990-92 show swathing at 10-20 and 20-30 percent seed color change yields similar to later stages, with 0-10 percent yielding lower. Optimal results occur at 30-40 percent seed color change but the window is brief. Early swathing risks lower grades and reduced yield if too early. A separate note outlines the Manitoba Cattle Feeder Association forming Prospect Livestock to finance feeder cattle purchases with current 5 percent down and up to 100000 loan per person. Contact Kevin Routledge or Kelly Haggarty for details. The group plans initial funding 5000-6000 and a meeting set for Aug 24 at the Hamiota Municipal Office Community Room.
