Sandra Hunt Feted On Eve Of August Wedding
A July 29 reception in Kenton hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Legion honored Sandra Hunt ahead of her August 13 marriage. Attendees included Sandra’s mother Shirley I. Hunt, groom’s mother Donna Hunter, and grandmother Mrs Jessie Stevens. Marlene Hunter read the address as Devon Corney and cousins delivered gifts. a luncheon followed and guests offered best wishes.
Class of 73 reunion brings Hamiota grads together
Hamiota 73 graduates, teachers and spouses gathered at the Community Centre for a 10th anniversary reunion on Saturday July 30. A 7 p.m. supper, speeches by classmates, and 9 p.m. dancing followed. A baby picture contest winner was Margie Taylor and various gag awards were given. Sunday featured tours and a picnic at the fairgrounds.

Manitoba minister attacks grain transport cost figures in Ottawa
Highways minister Samuel Askiw told the House of Commons Transport Committee that subsidies should reflect actual losses and not an American funded cost formula. He urged removing a 25.4 percent cost of capital and a 20 percent overhead charge from the Crow rate calculations, warning new costs could reach 10 to 20 dollars per tonne and 400 to 800 million annually.

Western Manitoba Broadcasters Plan New 412-Meter Tower
Western Manitoba Broadcasters and Relay Communications announce a 2.5 million dollar prefabricated tower at Hayfield Manitoba. The 412 metre structure weighs 270 tons and will be Canada’s second tallest after the CN Tower. It will replace the March 6 1983 ice storm collapse and serve CKX TV CKYB TV CKX FM and CBC signals AM FM French and FM Stereo. The project aims for operation by November 15 1983.

Energy and Mines Minister Wilson Parasiuk notes a 52 percent rise in oil wells drilled to 85 in the first six months of 1983, with 28 percent for new finds. Production grew 30 percent to May 30, led by the Waskada field, now supplying 29 percent of Manitoba's oil. Royalty payments rose to 7.2 million and provincial revenues to 6.3 million in four months.

The 35th annual Cochrane and Beamish reunion took place at the Hamiota Fair Grounds on July 17 1983 with sixty three guests signing the book. An afternoon program honored all attendees over 70 with gifts then a 5 p.m. supper followed by children's games and treats. Next year the gathering returns to Hamiota and will mark its centennial.
