Severe Wind Storm Causes Damage Across District

A severe wind storm swept the district last Friday evening blowing down shade trees and outbuildings. It toppled telephone poles and wires, cutting connections to Shoal Lake until late Sunday. Temporary service was restored by Mr. Small, the company foreman, on Sunday afternoon.

Nervous customer seeks quiet at local shop

A nervous man entered a store and, after sitting for about half an hour, declined offers to view goods. He explained his doctor advised quiet and avoiding crowds and chose the shop for its lack of newspaper advertising, seeking several hours of isolation.

Manitoba Pioneer Dies at Shoal Lake

Jas McLaughlin pioneer of Manitoba died at his daughter Mrs McLeod home in Shoal Lake last Saturday evening after a period of heart failure. He moved from Lanard Village near Perth Ontario to Bruce County and later to Manitoba settling near Winnipeg then Raven Lake before moving to Shoal Lake. Survived by wife and a large family with members in Shoal Lake Winnipeg and home. Funeral last Saturday with pallbearers James Milne James Reid A McKay J Killob R Coulson and Dr Hudson. The family expresses sincere sympathy.

Fire destroys Shoal Lake brick block and frame buildings

A major fire last Friday evening leveled the brick block housing Miller's drug store, the post office, and Unicon bank at Shoal Lake, spreading to nearby frame buildings including D. McDonald hardware, Dr. L. Lawson's office, and several other offices. Loss estimated around 350000, with Orange and Masonic fixtures also ruined. The fire is believed caused by lightning burning the Central Telephone switch board.

Picone at the Narrows Picnic for Hassard Guest

Mr and Mrs Wm Hassarl hosted a mixed group for a Narrows outing last Tuesday. The day featured ideal weather, boating and fishing, and games with Miss Hassard of Toronto as a guest of Mrs Hassard. On departure, cheers honored the Hassards. a watermelon was stolen from a rig.

Hamiota Annual Fair Sets New Records

Hamiota’s annual fair drew about 3500 visitors and showcased superb livestock, roots, fruits, grains, and fine arts. Judges noted strong professional competition in fancy work, with horse racing and baseball drawing large crowds and close finishes. The event was hailed as the best in the society’s history.
