No Denial of Rights In death by own action

Health Minister Bud Sherman says the death of Michael Angelakis was caused by human error in hospital emergency department procedures and not a denial of rights. Angelakis, 18, twice sought admission to the Health Sciences Centre and jumped from a fire escape after being turned away on March 22 following a nurse and a resident in psychiatry rejecting admission.

Ten Year Reunion Crandall HCS Class of 1970

A joyful ten year reunion for the HCS class of 1970 took place July 26 1980 at Crandall Community Centre. Guests enjoyed supper by Graham Jamieson, heard self introductions, and danced to Tony Nykoliation's music. Rick and Del Hamilton invited attendees to Oak Lake cabin Sunday, promising a relaxed family gathering and more memories.

Committee urges travel to study Canadian agriculture

The Standing Committee on Agriculture in the House of Commons favors traveling across Canada to review agricultural issues firsthand. MP Charles Mayer of Portage – Marquette pressed for a western tour during the June 25 question period, arguing drought and practical farmer solutions warrant on-site hearings. The committee previously visited in December 1970 to hear about the National Farm Products Marketing Act and Mayer expects broader study of agricultural problems.

Robert Toews Named Judge at Dauphin

Manitoba Attorney General Gerry Mercier announced the appointment of Robert Toews to Provincial Judges Court in Dauphin. A partner in Buckingham Toews and McNeill of Virden, Toews was born in Steinbach in 1931 and served seven years with the RCMP mainly in Saskatchewan. He earned his law degree from the University of Manitoba in 1965 and has been a bencher of the Law Society of Manitoba active on judicial and legislation committees.
