Sox Gain Play-Offs With 6-4 Victory Over Dauphin

Hamiota defeated Dauphin 6-4 to clinch a playoff series against Riverside in a best of seven. Glennis Scott allowed five hits with eight strikeouts as Hamiota built a 6-1 lead, Dauphin scoring twice in the eighth. Lynn Caldwell and Bryan Smith led Hamiota with key hits and defensive plays, while Caldwell earned All Star honors for a seventh straight year.

Industry Urged To Up Productivity In Manitoba

Premier Ed Schreyer called on business and industry to quickly raise productivity to sustain higher wages and social benefits. He urged use of government programs on advisory services, R and D, licensing, manpower training, and export promotion while expanding the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce role in regional development and a fall conference.

Manitoba Insurance Study Planned For Fall

Premier Ed Schreyer announced a full study of Manitoba automobile insurance problems will begin this fall after an exploratory meeting with industry representatives. The aim is to lower premiums by cutting costs and litigation and to consider injury compensation schemes to reduce court cases. The industry and government agreed to cooperate and provide personnel for the study.

Premiers to Honor Manitoba Birthday

Manitoba will host next year's annual conference of Canada’s premiers during the province’s centennial celebrations. Premier Ed Schreyer secured the 1970 meeting by proposing British Columbia host in 1971 for its centennial, allowing Manitoba to hold the 100th anniversary conference.

Education Fees Waived for Manitoba Teacher Training Students

Education Minister Saul Miller announced tuition waivers for 202 students in Manitoba's 1966 tuition free teacher training program at the University of Manitoba. Nineteen IA students begun January 1969 will graduate December, while 183 IIB students have one year left to complete their two year program with fees waived in their second year for professional courses.
