Roblin Seeks Federal PC Leadership for Canada

Premier Duff Roblin of Manitoba announced he will seek the national leadership of the Progressive Conservative party at the Toronto convention on September 5. He said he will retire as premier once the convention is over and will exit to allow a successor to lead Manitoba's PCs.

Norma E. Mack or Norma Bailey, 77 Lennon Ave St Vital, receives a $500 annual Manitoba Teachers' Society scholarship for study at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Education. Born in Decker Man she attended local schools and after motherhood engaged in extensive youth work. She will pursue Education I focusing on mathematics science and guidance at University of Manitoba next year.

The Butler connection gathered Sunday August 6 at Hamiota Centennial Park with 58 attendees from Langenburg Sask Kenora Ontario Oak River Ninga Souris Forrest Brandon Dur bin McConnell and Hamiota. Bill Thompson of McConnell was re elected president and Dot Lepine secretary. A social committee included Ross and Ethel Robertson and Beryl and Allan Asselstine.

Red Sox Roll to 12-3 Win Over Oilers in League Clash

In the Manitoba Senior League, the Red Sox improved to 17 wins with a 12-3 victory over the Virden Oilers. Hamiota out-hit Virden 16-10 as Don Smith collected four hits in six at bats. Lynn Caldwell hit a three run homer with two singles, while Al Robertson added three singles. Gord Lyall and Bryan Smith each had two hits. The game opened with a 1-1 tie after one inning, with Hamiota pushing ahead later and scoring additional runs in the fifth.

Anniversary Celebration for Mr and Mrs Corley of Brand on

Cairn Unveiled At Strathclair

A cairn ceremony for the late M. J. S. McMurachy pioneer of McMurachy Wheat is set for Tuesday August 15 1967 at 2 p m on the Municipal Hall Grounds Strathclair Manitoba. McMurachy found rust free wheat in 1930 guiding Selkirk breeding and improving race 15B resistant varieties. Public invited to attend vows and remarks at the unveiling.

McConnell District Centennial Reunion Draws Wide Attendance

On July 29 1967 McConnell District hosted a Centennial Reunion with 495 guest book signers on school grounds. Guests from British Columbia Alberta Ontario Saskatchewan and Manitoba enjoyed antiques displays games refreshments and a Harmony Music Makers performance followed by a baseball exhibition and a dance in McConnell Hall.

75th Annual Fair Opens at Hamiota Centennial Parade

The 75th Hamiota fair and Centennial celebrations opened with a mile long parade led by Rivers Pipe Band and local groups. Officials Lorne Montgomery and Lorne Caldwell led in a 1919 McLaughlin Buick. Attendance neared 3,000 with a record gate of 1300 dollars.

Friends Honor Merv McConnell at Lavinia Community

On August 4 former neighbors gathered at the McConnells' Hamiota home. George Peacock thanked them for years of service to Lavinia Community and presented a pole lamp. The evening ended with tea and greetings as friends wished them health and retirement in their new home.

Paddock's Fete Celebrates 25th Wedding Anniversary

Relatives and friends gathered at the Paddock home to honor Mr. and Mrs Howard Paddock on their 25th anniversary. Janice Paddock played My Best to You as Vic tor Alvey and Mrs Nelson Kreager offered congratulatory addresses. The couple received gifts and Mr Paddock conveyed thanks.
