MLAs and lieutenant governor tour northern Manitoba centres
Forty one of fifty five Manitoba MLAs have signed to tour five northern centres for the 50th anniversary of the north ward extension. Lieutenant governor Errick Willis leads a longer week end visit to eleven small centres starting August 20, with events through August 26, joined by premier Duff Roblin and cabinet members.

Province completes grant for Altona aged hostel
A final payment of 15480 and the total provincial grant of 61920 were forwarded to the Ebenezer Home for the Aged in Altona. The two storey masonry building opened June 1 with 35 single rooms and an eight bed infirmary for 43 elderly residents, led by Mennonite Brethren Churches in the area.

Aphids Reported on Flax In Pre bloom Stage
Insects including potato aphids are appearing on flax with reports from several fields. Provincial Entomologist notes the infestation is most common pre bloom and typically causes no serious damage. If early damage such as withering or leaf discoloration occurs, close monitoring and possible control are advised.

Observations show corn leaf aphids and geren bug aphids on cereals with late oats and barley facing possible serious problems. Malathion at 2 pints per acre is advised, but head-out crops should not be sprayed. Grasshoppers are numerous. Dieldrin not recommended on headed grain. Levin suggested if spraying.
