A severe electric storm passed over Towanda last Friday around noon. Lightning struck Stewart and Eby’s butcher shop twice, damaging a chimney and roof area while triggering telephone outages. No fire was found and no rain fell outside town limits.
A large storm swept southeast across southern Manitoba on Saturday, causing extensive damage in the Morden district and towns like Harding Brandon and Cypress River. Homes, churches and crops suffered, trees were stripped, roofs torn off, and many areas reported downed telephone wires. The storm extended into North Dakota with farms hailed out and extensive damage around Lenore.
The text urges housewives to spend time outdoors in sunlight for health and beauty. It promotes daily outdoor activity and keeping the stomach and bowels in good order, recommending Chamberlain's Tablets when needed to support well being.
Twenty six candidates from Hamiota school wrote the teachers examinations. Twenty two achieved success with three full passes and two supers for the second class. Part 1 and Part 2 lists include names such as Gladys Honek Edith G Andrew Bernice Park and Russel Heise. Officials expect more additions to the third class results as returns come in.
At ratepayers meetings for Isabella Decker Lavinia and McConnell consolidated districts trustees were chosen. McConnell A. D. McConnell serves as chairman with J. T. Arthur W. Jeorgine D. D. McMurphy and R. Pangman joined by M. Stone as secretary treasurer. Lavinia selects R. W. Coch rane A. W. Lief M. O. Tremaine E. McConnell and A. Kirk with A. Kirk as secretary treasurer. Isabella district elects H. Thompson as chairman with F. Park Tel Little F. Wyatt and W. H Decker. F. Park is secretary treasurer. E. S. Dyer is secretary treasurer for Isabella.
Under new management the Government telephone system reorganizes to cut costs. A proposed rate schedule shows a slight increase from the previous December level but remains well below the commission's earlier proposal. In Hamiota the new rates are Business 24.00, Residence 18.00, Rural 22.00.
