Tribute to Mrs Gladys Fraser recalls a life as a dedicated teacher and cherished neighbor. She taught for decades, survived personal losses in a street accident and World War I, and inspired thousands of former pupils with wisdom and service framed by a bronze plaque in her memory.
The Afternoon Auxiliary of the W M S met at the United Church Parlor on Tuesday April 19 at 2 30 p m with Mrs Dixon leading the session and discussions conducted by the group.
Mrs. Margaret Riddell of Hamiota died at her residence on Friday April 22 in her 86th year. Widow of John Riddell, she was born Margaret Cooke Drake in Statfa Ontario on June 25 1874. She leaves a son John of Hamiota, three daughters Euphemia Gray in Indian Head Sask Pearl Dermody Cloverdale and Ernie Wallace of Hamusta, plus a sister and four grandchildren. Funeral service conducted by Rev. Ralph Clark in the United Church on April 25 with pallbearers named.
Best of the Year Dewar Wilson of Grandview displays his champion purebred heifer calf after winning the Champion of the Calf Scramble at the Winter Fair. The plaque was presented by Don MacBeth for John P. Labatt. The calf comes from purebreds bought with scramble certificates earned last year.
The Hamiota Hospital District No. 7A Ladies Aid met with 15 districts represented. They allotted twenty dollars each to two graduating practical nurses and discussed funds raised by the Manitoba Auxiliary. They planned to buy underdrapes for six wards and noted the regional meeting at Brandon General Hospital. Riverdale auxiliary joined Rivers new hospital, and Shoal Lake will host next year’s meeting.
Hon. George Hutton announces the West Red River Test area covering MacDonald Morris Letellier and adjacent municipalities with eight sub agents led by supervisor H M Fewster. Coverage based on long term yields includes wheat oats barley and flax with premiums varying by district and rate 4, 6 or 7 percent. Manitoba leads provinces in this test program attracting delegations from other regions.
Mr F L McKinnon Miss T V Fulton of Hamiota and C L Glenn of Oakner attended the Manitoba Teachers Society annual convention in Winnipeg Easter week. About two hundred delegates from forty six division associations and seven thousand teachers considered one hundred fifty resolutions at the Marlborough Hotel. Miss Sybil Shack was elected president and Nicholas Toews first vice president. A key speech urged acting on curriculum and teacher training improvements and several resolutions urged positions on religious instruction public school funding and private school support.

He leaves wife Hazel and Billy and his parents Alec and Agnes Angus plus three sisters and four brothers. Burial in family plot Lawn Section Brandon.
Mr Tinline spoke at one Womer Institute meeting. He described years as a foreman and presented color films showing the progress at Pease Gardens with terraced grounds and a boundary cairn with flag poles. The group plans a summer departure, led by President Mrs Johnson. The cancer canvass runs in April with Miss Maxine English setting April 6 for WI training on To days Fabrics. Two members were chosen to go. The District Convention is set for May 17 at Strathclair.
