The Birdtail School Division met at Shoal Lake on April 13 1960 with seven trustees present led by Mr Funk. Actions approved include minutes from March 23, correspondence handling, debenture bidding via the Public Utility Board, teacher replacements and engagements, leave of absence for R Rempel, payment to Miss Sylvia Podworony for an instruction course, and a grant application for adult classes. The board adjourned to meet April 27, 1960 at 8 p.m.

J B Mitchell Remembered In Arrow River Community
J B Mitchell died at Hamiota Hospital after a brief illness. He was born December 18 1891 in Arrow River, married December 1 1918 to Pike Fleming, and lived on the Arrow River farm. Survived by son Kenneth daughter Thelma, brother Archie sister Margaret and seven grandchildren. He served as a longtime Masonic Lodge member and was laid to rest at Arrow River cemetery with a Masonic burial service.

Government Farm Aid May Top $1 Million
Emergency assistance to Manitoba farmers from last fall's severe weather will likely exceed one million dollars. Minister George Hutton reported that as of April 7, $692,928 had been authorized, with unharvested crops still under assessment and a one month extension to April 30 for hay and fodder freight aid.

Retarded Children’s Association Organized in Virden Area
A public meeting at Goulter School Auditorium on April 7 drew nearly 100 attendees to form a local branch of the Manitoba Association for Retarded Children. Dr. Allan opened the gathering, with Mrs. Eileen Chester and Mrs. Rasmussen outlining grants and needs for special teachers, and an executive committee was elected led by Mrs. E. Austin as president. A follow up public meeting is set for April 27 at 8 pm in the Court Room.

The 68th annual Hamiota Agricultural Society Exhibition and Sorts Day will be held Wednesday July 20 1960. The event features two regional shows the Hereford Regional Show and Provincial Sheep Show both new to Hamiota. Premises include horse divisions cattle swine poultry fodder vegetables canning sewing and children’s work with Lewchuk’s Midway and the Hamiota Citizens Band performing. prize money for baseball is increased.

Cardale Busy Beavers Garden Club Elects Leaders
The Busy Beavers Garden Club of Cardale held its organizational meeting at the school on Thursday March 31 with Mrs Gordon Cowan conducting. David Primner was elected president and Linda Shaw vice president. Debra Charles is pew secretary and Patricia Reid treasurer. Two reporters were chosen Frances St John for Minnedosa paper and Kenny Spiller for Hamida paper. The next meeting is April 22 and then the third Friday of each month. Ross Primmer leads for 1960 and the group has thirteen members.

The Easter Thankoffering meeting of the Evening Auxiliary met at Mrs. Tiene Strickland’s home with 28 attendees. The treasurer noted 139 dollars sent to Presbyterial for the first quarter, and card sales yielded 19.78 dollars. Agnes Pateman and Pearl McConnell received Life Memberships from Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Hemphill. Guest speaker Mrs. Thare of Miniota spoke on the History and Work of the WMIS and the future integration of new WM S and WA. The gathering ended with the Mizpah Benediction.

The Baby Band held its regular Mother's meeting at the home of Mabel Wright on Wednesday April 13 with 12 mothers and 2 visitors present. After a brief business session the Snazzy Snippers demonstrated articles they made. An Easter egg decorating contest amused attendees. The committee served lunch, and the group plans to sell carnations for Mother's Day.
