Mail boxes in sloughs aid duck nests and tests
In Manitoba and Saskatchewan wetlands volunteers install three foot tunnel nesting boxes for mallards. Of 166 tunnels, 115 were used and 88 percent of those nests hatched. While DU results show high success, some farmers oppose Ducks Unlimited land purchases citing increased wildlife. Two mallard hens shared a tunnel and both broods hatched.
