The Southwest A W I regional convention met in Rivers on April 27 with Marion McNabb as chair. Officials from Rivers and Kirkum Institutes attended. Rae Hamblin presented the AWI flag as the Pennies for Friendship collection netted 610.39 with 87.37 earmarked for the Westman Woman's Shelter.

Manitoba observes uniform daylight saving time under the Official Time Act from the last Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October. Clocks advance one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday April 27, 2 a.m. becomes 3 a.m., marking the start of the six month period.

Manitoba farmers in Roblin area vote to form the Canadian Independent Agriculture Producers CIAP to secure COP pricing across agriculture. Manitoba Hydro four day week expands in Winnipeg offices

Manitoba Hydro announces a four day work week starting April 21 with head office on Taylor Avenue and the Apache Mall complex closed Mondays through September 8. Essential services remain. one Taylor Avenue payment option and nearly 100 collection points support accounts. From April 22 to September 12 offices operate Tuesday to Friday 8 00 a.m. to 4 45 p.m. with about 1500 employees working extra hours to offset the shortened summer schedule.

Fishing Season Opens May 10 in Southern Manitoba

Natural Resources Minister Brian Ransom announced the 1980 general angling season for pike and walleye in southern Manitoba starts May 10 with Grand Rapids north opening May 17. Some areas and species have exceptions and licenses cost 3.30 for residents and 11 for non residents, with a 3 day option at 4.50.
