How to Make Your Tires Last Longer
Goodyear Tire Company publishes a booklet on tire longevity. Unequal brake adjustment causes one tire to wear faster as a wheel locks during braking. A test at 80 mph showed the locked tire wore to the breaker strip after stopping. Braking hard at 35 mph can heat the wheel, raising tire wear and weakening inner tubes.

Rotate Your Tires for Even Wear and Mileage
Rotate tires by swapping right front to right rear, right rear to left front, left front to left rear, and left rear to right front. Rear wheel drive accelerates rear tire wear, high crown roads worsen tread wear, and inner tread wears more. Reposition tires every 3000 miles to equalize wear and boost tread mileage up to 25 percent.
Have Your Tires Examined for Cuts and Bruises
No matter how new a tire may be it is subject to cuts and bruises which may prove costly. Have your tires inspected at regular intervals. A small cut can be repaired quickly and economically. If neglected the flexing of the tire enlarges the damaged area and debris may enter causing expensive repairs or ruined casing.
