RCMP uncover marijuana grow operation in Oak River home

Joint investigation by Yellowhead RCMP Detachment and Brandon City Police led to a search of a residence in Oak River on April 12. Police seized over 100 marijuana plants, growing gear and paraphernalia. A 23 year old male faces pending charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for cultivation and trafficking as the probe continues.

Hamiota Co op allocates equity from year end profit

Year end profit for the Hamiota Co op, year ending Nov 30 1998, totals 2 653 942 dollars with earnings of 120 263 dollars. At the 70th annual meeting on April 7 a motion approved allocating 88 000 dollars to member equity or 3 5 percent of purchases. 835 purchasing members. 30 070 dollars returned to estates age category and moved away. By law lowered Age of Repayment of Equity to 72 years. members 72 may apply to have equity paid. Since 1991 four hundred thousand dollars has been paid to members who qualified under age moved away and estates. Shirley Dale received a gold watch for 25 years service. she began in 1974 and became first female general manager in 1983. Board members Lloyd Anderson Ernie Buhler re-elected for three years. Jan Shaw to replace Allan Hyndman who did not seek re election. Directors Jack Boyd Rodney Lewis Janice Longstaff John Thompson. Still Water Trades Post Partners Open Community Facility

Businesses from Hendersons Plumbing and Heating MAST Electric and a licensed sheet metal tradesman join Tammy Ruth David and Stewart McConnell to open the Still Water Trades Post in the former Hamiota Coop building. The phased project includes an arcade opening by May and later storefronts for trades and crafts and giftware. The venture aims to boost local youth activity and diversify the economy.
