McDonald to pinch hit for Division Leader in Birdtail River
The Birdtail River School Division appoints Neil McDonald of Manitoba Hamitoa as Director of Operations for the rest of the current year after the March dismissal of Superintendent Don ONeill. McDonald began April 6, with retirement as Secretary Treasurer planned for April 17. The board expresses thanks to staff and communities for patience and continuity.

Birdtail elects Nelson Bunn to new two year term as Chief
Nelson Bunn was re elected chief of the Birdtail Sioux First Nation for another two year term. He won 43 percent of the votes, 77, amid a summer campaign by band members to oust him. Former chief Henry Skywater received 33 votes, 18 percent, in distant second. The Birdtail reserve near Birtle with about 450 residents has seen turbulent years. Bunn faced criticism over leadership amid a string of personal crises and deaths and alleged mismanagement of funds. Five candidates sought chief. 179 eligible voters, 12 percent turnout. New councillors include Chris Benn Ken Chalmers Lavrene Benn and Yvonne Bearbull.
