Wallace Named Manitoba Agriculture Deputy Minister
R A Wallace has been named Manitoba Deputy Minister of Agriculture and will assume the post in May. Agriculture Minister Harry Enns announced the appointment in the Legislature. Wallace, 42, is from Kenton district and joined the Manitoba government in 1950 after earning a BSc in agriculture and an MSc in soils in 1953. He has held key roles in the soils division and served as assistant deputy minister since 1984.

Andrew C. Sutherland Dies After Lingering Illness
Andrew C. Sutherland died at Ayre on C Sayo Streeted away 21 Stra and General Hospital on Friday April 4 1957 after a three week illness. Born July 21 1885 in Blanshard Township he lived in Hiamiota Man where he served as church caretaker. He later returned to Ontario to live with sister Mrs Clarke Switzer and then with Mrs F Bed. Survived by one sister in Avon Crest Hospital and many nieces and nephews. Funeral held at Lockhart Funeral Home Mitchell conducted by Rev D Sloan with burial in Stone Church cemetery Kirkton. Pallbearers named from the community.

About 150 people gathered at the Agricultural Museum of Manitoba in Austin for the sod turning of a 120 by 70 foot centennial building. Hon. Harry Enns and C. A. Hotel unveiled the project with the Gary Scott Steam engine and a breaking plow. Construction will start after frost leaves the ground, with occupancy planned for the Threshermen’s Reunion, July 26–29.
