Manitoba Legislature Approves Five Per Cent Sales Tax In Principle
The Manitoba Legislature gave in principle approval to a five per cent sales tax to take effect in June. Treasurer Len Gurney Evans said exemptions will keep 60 to 75 percent of consumer prices unaffected, including food shelter and children's clothing. He outlined an information program for vendors and noted exemptions for books, farming equipment, and production materials. Vendors will receive commissions on tax collected.
