Recycling Group updates numbers in Hamiota Manitoba

The Hamiota and District Recycling Group met on April 5 1990 to update members on shipments to Western Scrap Metals Inc and Manitoba Soft Drink Recycling. Totals for two stops show 5142 pounds and 143.33 in revenue with rising interest from local volunteers and a potential local newspaper paper market.

Derksen-Heide Dam funding announced near Boissevain

The $190,000 joint federal Manitoba grant under the Agri-Food Agreement funds a nine metre high Derksen-Heide Dam on Zetterstrom Creek nine kilometres southwest of Boissevain. It will irrigate forage crops and supply water for livestock, benefiting fisheries and wildlife. completion is set for fall 1990 with Manitoba Natural Resources supervising.

Councillor backs swan hills hazardous waste plan debate

Councillor Rae Turner said he has swung from opposition to cautious support after hearing former Swan Hills mayor Margaret Hansen defend the hazardous waste plant 11 miles from Swan Hills. Hansen cited job creation, housing, school growth, and 3 000 visitors as benefits while noting town cooperation and planning committee involvement. DIAND transfers Brandon Residential School property to Sioux Valley Band

Letters of patent transferred ownership of the Brandon Indian Residential School property from the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development to the Sioux Valley Development Corporation for the Sioux Valley Indian Band. The plan is to develop an Indian Student Housing Complex to aid native students and those with dependents attending regional and post secondary institutions.
