Phys Chem Treatment Facility Explained by Local Officials
Representatives from the P.C.H.A. and CAC briefed the R.M. and Village of Hamiota on a proposed physical chemical hazardous waste treatment plant. The plan, to be filed with the Department of Environment, would neutralize weak acids, produce a salt and metal sludge, and landfill as a dry solid concrete with tight community licensing and no incinerator.

Correction to HY 320 crop variety status in Manitoba guide
Manitoba Agriculture corrects HY 320 deregistration timing. HY 320 remains Canada Prairie Spring grade eligible until July 31, 1991, not downgraded to feed wheat until August 1, 1991. HY 320 is replaced by HY 368 Biggar, a harder kernel variety aimed at better domestic and foreign market acceptance. John Rogalsky notes the August 1, 1990 deregistration date in the guide is incorrect for grade eligibility.

Hamiota plans phys chem treatment plant for hazardous wastes
A proposal to file for a phys-chem treatment plant in Hamiota targets inorganic wastes such as spent acids bases and metal finishing cyanide wastes. The 35 acre site with secured drainage houses admin and operation buildings a lab and landfills designed to treat 12000 tonnes yearly of inorganic material and 15000 tonnes of aqueous organic waste. Public review under the Dangerous Goods Handling and Transportation Act Environment Act to follow with site specific environmental impact assessment. The Waste Management Office in Hamiota Library will host the proposal after filing during the week of April.
