Phone rate increase opposed by KAP

The Keystone Agricultural Producers Inc. urged the Manitoba Public Utilities Board to block a 2 cent per minute long distance rate increase by Manitoba Telephone System until rural service improves. The submission, dated April 6 1987, argued farmers cannot absorb higher costs as rural lines suffer overcrowding and limited private lines, and suggested freezing farm rates pending a rural needs study and action plan. The EAP noted farmers support improved service and may accept a reasonable rise if funds fund rural upgrades.
