The Centennial History Book Committee met on April 4 1984 with twenty six present to finalize pricing. Pre orders by April 4 cost 32 dollars while post date orders are 35 dollars full payment. Distribution day is Saturday April 14 at the Hamiota Community Centre 10 30 a m to 5 p m.
Oak River Ladies Auxiliary met April 5 with Audrey Coulson presiding. Fourteen members attended as they distributed cookbooks costing $5 each for a Centennial project. Donations were sent to the Arthritis Society. Cards issued included two get well, two sympathy and one baby card. Next meeting is May 3.
The Ways and Means Committee of the New United Church Building Fund met at the Sunday School Room with Edward Leland presiding. They reported $24,822.22 in canvass collections, post-dated cheques included, and a total of $54,822.22 with $30,000 more expected. A $70,000 goal was set for May 1 to enable new church plans. A congregational meeting was scheduled for April 29 at 12 p.m. to receive the committee report.
Oak River U C W held a church meeting with 12 members. Jean Hutchings presided and Isabel Paddock led a Easter devotional. Treasurer reported about 900 dollars. Plans include Easter lilies for shut ins, Candle publication, and Birtle Presbyterial on April 4. General meeting set for June 5 at 8 pm with Unit III in charge.
Kenton School hosts Jump Rope for Heart sponsored by Manitoba Physical Education Teachers Association to raise funds for heart and stroke research. Students learn rope tricks from coordinators Angela Bray and Rachael White and participate in a three hour JUMP-OFF on April 13 from 12 30 p m to 3 30 p m with prizes based on pledges. Health Minister Larry Desjardins announced a two percent increase in the maximum dispensing fee Manitoba pharmacies may charge for prescription drugs from 4.95 to 5.05 dollars. The rise, effective April 1, 1984, was agreed with the Manitoba Society of Professional Pharmacists and applies to all prescriptions.
The Arts West Travelling Gallery will be on display at the Hamiota Centennial Library from April 23 to May 4. The library hours include regular days and extended hours during the two weeks. The exhibition, chosen at the 4th Annual Juried Show, features original works by Westman Region artists.
Mr. Justice Gordon C. Hall will read the Speech from the Throne opening the third session of the 32nd Manitoba Legislature on Thursday April 12. With the Lieutenant-Governor absent and Chief Justice Mannin away, an order-in-council named Hall Administrator from April 12 to 14.
