Winnipeg reports the third session of the 32nd Manitoba Legislature will open on April 12 with the Speech from the Throne read by Administrator Chief Justice A M Mannin. Elijah Harper and Myrna Phillips will move and second the Throne Speech amid Liberal and Conservative leadership remarks.

Lenore couple marks 40th anniversary in Lenore

Kim and Fran Ellis celebrated 40 years of farming at Lenore on March 24 with a family dinner at Pump n' Pit attended by six grandchildren and siblings from Melita Virden Hamiota and Lenore. The couple married March 25 1944 in Brandon and have seven grandchildren.

Jump Rope for Heart at Hamiota Collegiate

Hamiota Collegiate hosts Jump Rope for Heart to raise funds for heart and stroke research. Students, guided by Dennis Robinson, learn rope tricks and participate in a three hour Jump-Off on April 17 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the school gym to gather pledges and prizes.

Holly Hudson Passes Gold Dance Test in Shoal Lake

Holly Hudson from Hamiota has passed the CFSA Gold Dance Test, the highest level in figure skating. She trained six years in CFSA, started with Dillam and Shoal Lake clubs, and is a Grade 12 student at Hamiota Collegiate aiming for a pharmacy degree at the university.

Canada Post to Maintain Postal Rate Freeze in 1984-85

Michael Warren, president of Canada Post Corporation, says the rate freeze begun last October will continue. The corporation aims to break even within two and a half years and will stick to that goal. The Board approves the 1984-85 business plan and extends the no layoff policy.
