Federal loan approved for Hamiota park residence project

The federal government approves a $52 000 loan to Hamiota Senior Citizens Park Residences for 10 low rental units in Hamiota Manitoba. Lions Club of Hamiota sponsors the project using a 40 year term at 1 1/8 percent interest with provincial grant support of $15 602.

Premier Roblin Calls Manitobans to Re-Dedicate Conservation

Premier Duff Roblin urged Manitobans to join Canada and the United States in re dedicating themselves to conservation as National Wild Life Week began. He noted Jack Miner’s work spurring public interest and cited acts in Canada and the U S honoring the naturalist and his birthday April 10.

Aluminum border markers mark planned Canada line

A three marker project begins in Winnipeg on March 27 to place specially designed 30 inch aluminum cairns along the border to designate the exact line. The first marker is set for placement around April 8 by a team of about 20 workers advancing toward the province’s northwest corner.

St Patrick’s Day Notes and March Birthdays at Senior Citizens

March features included a St Patrick’s program with music pictures and Irish stories. Eldest member Ed McConnell, age 98, celebrated on March 21 with friends from Shoal Lake. Shoal Lake Trustees Meet Minutes March 1962

Birdtail River School Division met at Shoal Lake on March 1962 with trustees Fulton Selby Stimpson Gamey Reynolds Fraser Hunter and Principal McKinnon present. They approved March 14 minutes and accepted various correspondences including education grants tenders and equipment. They authorized a $150 monthly caretaker payment for Shoal Lake Collegiate and adjourned to April 4 at 4 pm.

Manitoba Publishes Revised Drivers Handbook

The Manitoba safety division releases a newly enlarged 92 page Drivers Handbook to guide 389,474 licensed drivers. Public Utilities Minister Sterling Lyon says the book clarifies Highway Traffic Act changes, promotes care and courtesy, and explains the point system and driver responsibilities. Copies are distributed free at motor vehicle offices and Portage Avenue locations.
