Manitoba to gain little from railway expansion says study
A provincial interdepartmental study tabled in the Leg by Minister Sam Askiw finds Manitoba will derive minimal benefits from ten years of increased railway capital expenditures. Despite 14.7 per cent of western Canada’s population and 16.3 per cent of grain production, Manitoba would receive about 4.5 per cent of employment and under 5 per cent of construction benefits, with modest boosts to labor income and GDP over the decade.
