Manitoba Personal Care Home Fees Rise for 1985 86

Health Minister L L Desjardins announces higher daily charges for personal care home residents and hospital patients awaiting admission for fiscal year 1985 86. From May 1 1985 the daily rate rises from 14 80 to 15 25 with 45 cent steps on Aug 1 Nov 1 1985 and Feb 1 1986. The average monthly disposable income for residents will be 154 25 based on OAS and GIS.

Future events planned include West Man regional auxiliary meeting April 4 hosted by Hamilton, Florence Nightingale Tea May 8, June supper June 4 in Cardale. next meeting April 26 at 2:00 in outreach room.

Ruth McLean Receives Certificate of Merit in Brandon

Ruth McLean of Virden received a Certificate of Merit at the Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba Division annual volunteer awards dinner in Brandon. The award honors five years of leadership, with Ruth active since 1978 as a trained visitor for the Mastectomy Visiting Service and organizer of breast cancer programs, self examination clinics, and Terry Fox events in Virden. Norma Simpson notes Ruth’s strong service to the Virden unit.

Miniota Birthday Celebration for Mrs. Jean Cook

A Come and Go Tea at Miniota Community Hall on March 23 honored Mrs. Jean Cook’s 85th birthday. About 170 guests signed the guest book, with Jean’s grandson Jim Cook and sister Mrs. Birdie Thompson in attendance.

Old Age Security Pensions Seen Rising in April

Federal OAS pensions GIS and Spouse’s Allowance will increase in April to match living costs. The OAS will rise to 276.54 monthly, GIS for single pensioners up to 328.66, and married GIS up to 214.05 per spouse. Spouse’s Allowance for those 60 to 65 rises to 490.59. extended allowance to 541.62. Applications for GIS recipients due by March 31.
