Special Needs Funds Boost for Winnipeg Schools

Education Minister Keith Cosens announced a $75,000 increase for special needs projects in school divisions, added to the $425,000 already in the 1979 80 estimates. The funds will support hiring special services for children with special needs based on proposals from divisions to the department.

Hospital dental work fees up 8.7 percent in Manitoba

Manitoba health minister Bud Sherman announced an 8.7 percent increase in fees for insured dental procedures performed in hospitals under the Manitoba health insurance plan. The rise, negotiated with the Manitoba Dental Association, applies to elaborate in hospital procedures and aims to parity with doctors, adding about $55,000 to 1980 81 costs.

Manitoba Cancer Society Sets 1980 Campaign Goal

The Manitoba Division aims for 900 000 in 1980 with April as Cancer Campaign Month. Executive Director Murray Bater notes last year’s result exceeded 830 000 and the division topped its objective for a third straight year. Funds will fund a Winnipeg lodge for rural patients and expand early detection and prevention in schools and businesses.

Arason Named Corporate Secretary of Manitoba Pool Elevators

J. D. Deveson announces G. S. Arason will become corporate secretary of Manitoba Pool Elevators effective June 1, 1980, succeeding D. W. Wilton who retires in July after 31 years. Arason, born in Glenboro, studied at the University of Manitoba and rose from field representative in 1971 to Manager of Field Services and Member Relations by 1977. he is married to Margaret with two sons.

Reimer Named To Manitoba Credit Union Stabilization Fund Board

Winnipeg cooperative development minister Bob Banman announced J. D. Reimer’s appointment to the Manitoba Credit Union Stabilization Fund board replacing J. J. Huybers. Reimer has 35 years in the credit union system and is now general manager of the Steinbach Credit Union.
