Hamiota Figure Skating Club Sets 1971 72 Plans
The Hamiota Figure Skating Club met at the rink with 20 mothers present. The treasurer reported income of 1162.20 and expenses 730.58 leaving 431.62. An Ice Show will not be held next year to give children more lesson time and badge progress. An Achievement Night will be held later in the season. Next season will group children by badge standing and adjust lesson schedules. Regular lessons are Wednesdays and Fridays with no tests, testing every second Monday, alternate Mondays and Sundays for practice or private lessons. Monday 4 to 5 p.m. Sundays 12 45 to 2 15 p.m. Fridays 5 30 to 6 p.m. Dance Instruction offered for those with little badge or in morning sessions. Farm Credit Loans Surpass Million in Manitoba
Federal Farm Credit Corporation reports strong reception of its lending policy among Manitoba farmers in the past fiscal year. Farmers borrowed for land purchase improvements land clearing and basic livestock to develop viable units and for joint ownership under the Farm Syndicates Credit Act. Mortgages at 5 percent remain with the land if new buyers meet conditions and retain existing assistance.

Vocational Agriculture Course Trains 20 Manitoba Farmers
Twenty men from Virden Hamiota and area completed a 90 day Farm Management course in Miniota. The program, jointly sponsored by the Departments of Agriculture Man-Power and Education, used Manitoba texts and mirrors Red River and Assiniboine college courses. Trainees earned training allowances and will receive certificates at a Miniota banquet on April 2.

Mr and Mrs Clifford Angus of Hamiota marked their 40th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter in Isabella on March 27 1971 with a 21 guest dinner and a later lunch for 35. Cyril Norrie and family hosted. Jack Houck led toasts. The couple have two children Dorreen and Elgin and seven grandchildren.

Oak River hosted a multi event bonspiel with 32 rinks entered. First event top four finishers were Ed Shamray, Jack Hume, Clarence Argue, and Bob Westbrook from Oak River. Second event winners Cam Henry and Jim Forsyth led Oak River entries. Other podiums included Harvey Stewart and Dick Hunt with Kenton, and Ron Armstrong and Bob Young with Newdale.

Marquette NDP elects new president and delegates
At the annual meeting the Marquette NDP chose Hank Andrew of Hamiota as president, with Andrew succeeding Emil Shellborne of Erickson on the board. Arthur Nicholson of Shoal Lake and Claris Nicholson of Shoal Lake were elected vice president and secretary treasurer. Delegates named for the NDP Federal Leadership Convention in Ottawa include Randell, Antonation, Shiduk, Shellborne, Batters, Lee, Bailey, and alternates Klym and Bobbie among others. Provincial President Lawrence Bell urged more resolutions and the group endorsed a farm income stabilization plan based on net income per Manitoba plan.

A meeting on March 24 1971 in the community room of Hamiota decided to transfer all assets to the Hamiota School Band. Assets include instruments loaned to the school uniforms stored in the Municipal Hall and 178 dollars in the Royal Bank. Eight members attended the meeting.

Junior Girls win division while Senior Boys and Girls fall to Zone 8 rivals Swan River and Minitonas. Boys trailed 17-10 at halftime before a 9 point loss.
