Liberty ay celebration described as biggest event in years
Hamburg residents held a multi group parade and program marking a Liberty Day celebration. The event featured a service flag, a 26 car parade, a 105 star school flag, speeches by Dr J T Nichols of Des Moines, Desdune’s Minstrel band, and a community cake auction raising about $90. A flag pole dedication, Veterans and school groups, and a large crowd of four to five thousand attended despite rain.

Apple House Fire Destroys Simons Store and Supplies
A Friday morning blaze at A. A. Simons lost his apple house and most of the spraying equipment and sorting gear. Two spraying machines and a few chemicals were saved. The building, insured, will cost about 2500 dollars. trees nearby suffered heat damage and hose melted. WE Calaway Hall, a local figure, died at Clarinda and was buried in Riverton. Aubrey Walburn, son of local residents, was named cashier of Northwest Savings Bank in Washington, D. C. He had worked in Indianola and Shenandoah and had served in the Quartermaster and Treasury departments before joining the bank. Buy War Savings Stamps now.

A quiet home ceremony at the Simons residence united Lou Emily Simons and Alexander Propp in marriage with Rev. J J Hobbins officiating. Figures say the bride, from Hamburg, has taught in Fremont County and Sidney schools, while the groom is a hard working young farmer. About twenty relatives attended and a two course feast followed the ring ceremony.
