1845 probate inventory reveals Northwest Missouri store and mill cofounders

Merlin Wright reports on J Kuepper and John Intfeld-Taffield partnership in Atchison county with a vast estate list. Inventory shows a store by a stream likely Nishnabotna River, mill gear, hardware, clothing, oils, whiskey debts, and early frontier life spanning rifles to oil paintings and silk ribbons.

Atchison Holt Co op Plans July 31 Annual Meeting

The Atchison Holt Electric Cooperative heads to Rock Port City Park on July 31 for its annual meeting. Registered members receive a 100 watt lamp bulb and refreshments. Bay Startz is named speaker with balloons for kids and a talent show featuring Trachens and Det rita, plus entertainer Jean Norman and Dusty Cummings. Glen Hall to provide organ music and backup for the show.

Auction of Eagle district school items and county housing data

The Eagle district school and equipment will be sold by bid on Friday July 27 at 9 30 am. The school lies three miles south and a mile east of Riverton or four five miles south of Farragut and three miles west. Items include desks blackboards playground equipment stove and a teacher's desk. The county housing census notes air conditioning in 355 homes, mixed plumbing in 1746 sound units, and 652 two car families among many statistics with statewide tables available in booklet No 17 Iowa for $1.25.

Farragut school bond election under challenge in court

A petition filed in district court at Sidney seeks a temporary injunction against selling 420000 in Farragut Community School District bonds after a May election decided by one vote. The suit alleges improper voting, miscounting, spoiled ballots, lack of authorization, and missing polling places. Hearing set for July 25.

Hamburg Schools announce fall teaching assignments

Supt. George Wenzil announced several fall term teacher assignments. Jerry Payne leaves Mr. Ayr contract to teach regular classes here again. Mrs. Mary Ann Gregg returns half days to junior high, with schedule to be set later. Mrs. Walter Johnson moves to full time teaching fifth grade language arts English IV and dramatics. Openings remain for instrumental music Spanish with social studies and first grade instructors.
