Two Fremont County Districts Proposed for Schools

Popcorn Day Fest Promises Big Hamburg Celebration

Hamburg prepares for its second Popcorn Festival on Saturday September 22 sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Planned events include a parade free entertainment exhibits a dance and more to promote Hamburg as a major popcorn center. Co chairs list committees for parade finance stage and PA entertainment advertising exhibits and more with calls for local exhibitors. County School Superintendent Dwight Fellows seeks a $1,000 increase to $26,730 for next year to fund the Fremont County Board of Education office. A hearing is set for 7:00 p.m. July 26 at his office. The plan lists allocations for General control, Instruction, Auxiliary Agencies, Coordinate Activities, Fixed Charges, and Capital Outlay. Mr and Mrs Jim Findley have adopted an infant daughter named Anna Maria.

County to re appraise Fremont real estate in 1965

The Fremont County Conference Board orders a complete re evaluation of county property led by County Assessor C Elbert Lynn. Four outside appraisers will handle the work costing an estimated 40 000 to 50 000 dollars. The project aims to equalize values so taxes for 1965 fall fairly.

El Monte Motel Sold to Holzmans from Kansas City

Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Holzman of Kansas City Missouri purchased the El Monte Motel from H E Stewart and assumed ownership. The Stewarts moved to Canyon City Colorado. The Holzmans plan extensive improvements after settling in. They have 15 years in the motel business operating units in Princeton Springfield and Kansas City Missouri and a motel in Arkansas. They have two grown children a married daughter in Kansas City and a son in the army in Alaska.

Local Tri State Swim Meet Honors Hamburg Team

The Tri State Swimming Association opened its season at Mound City with Hamburg finishing fourth among five towns. Winners included Jim Wenger and Mary Vollertsen among others, with multiple relay wins and placings. Coach Jack Neuzil called the meet worthwhile and expects stronger showings ahead. The next meets are at Maryville, Hamburg, Roch Pool, and Auburn through late summer.

Fremont County budget to drop by 310 dollars next year

The Fremont County Extension Council plans a budget request of 15 500 dollars for the year starting January 1, down from 15 830 dollars this year.
