A burglar stole about 406 from the Clarence Zutz bedroom while the house was empty between 315 and 500 pm on Saturday. Alma Zutz found money scattered across the room with rolled dimes and small bills taken but larger denominations left. two cigar boxes with rolled coins and a tackle box shelf were used to haul the loot.

Mrs. Francis Nuckolls, Elizabeth Nuckolls, sister of Dennis Henshaw, died in Arlington California at 73. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 p.m. at Westboro funeral home with burial in the cemetery east of Tarkio. A Lincoln couple, Mack and Mrs. Simpson, welcomed a daughter Tammy Sue born February 9 weighing nine pounds eleven ounces, with Charles Simpson and Richard Hartman as grandparents.

Margaret Wieder named for 4-H Home Furnishings trip to Chicago

Margaret Ann Wieder daughter of Mr and Mrs John Wieder of Locust Grove township earned selection from Fremont County for the annual Home Furnishings trip to Chicago. Her furniture refinishing project and color coordinating earned recognition at the Iowa State Fair. She has been active in the local 4-H club with leaders Mrs Harold Gruber and Mrs Boyd Hamilton Jr and attended 4-H camps at Sidney and the Madrid center. She will depart February 25 with 35 other southern Iowa award winners to tour firms and factories related to 4-H home furnishings.

James Scott Sentenced Five Years in Anamosa Penitentiary

James Scott pled guilty to larceny of a motor vehicle and breaking and entering in district court at Sidney. He was apprehended in Hamburg after stealing Darwin Thomas’s car and breaking into the Reid Grain Co. office, obtaining about 12 dollars before abandoning the vehicle in Nebraska City and hitching back to Hamburg where he was re arrested. He had a prior prison term for similar offenses in the county.

Services for Mrs Billie Brown Friday

Mrs Billie Brown of Hamburg died at Fairfax hospital Tuesday night. Funeral services are set for Friday February 16 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home with burial in Grange Hall cemetery. Survivors include sons Charles and Jean Brown of Hamburg, sister Mrs May Noblitt of Montana, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Band Carnival Named Most Successful Yet

Band parents and supporters report the event as one of the most successful carnivals. Net receipts reach about £58 after expenses, while three attendees spent $748.07 collectively. Deductions for found items and materials total around $164.94. This year’s net trails last year by about $100.

Edwin DeVries is the new minister at the Church of Christ. He and his wife and five children moved here Friday from Ellerville, Missouri, where he had been preaching. DeVries was born in northern Iowa and trained for the ministry at Otumwa.

Charles D. Butler of Hambure named Fremont County champion corn grower by Farmers Hybrids. He reported a 148.50 bushels per acre yield at 15 percent moisture on No 2 corn. Butler received a personalized engraved plaque at a Champions Recognition Banquet in Atlantic.

Supt Neuzil Accepts Three Year Contract With Raise

George Neuzil Hamburg Community Schools superintendent accepts a new three year contract raising salary from 7500 to 9500 dollars per year. The pay aligns with Fremont County district leaders such as Farragut 9600, Siumey 6250, Fremont Mills 8000, Riverton 5900 plus living quarters. The deadline for teacher contract returns is April 15. Neuzil completes his second year this summer.
