Rev A Welby Tandy completed five years as pastor of the local Baptist church. The church reported a 30 percent rise in membership, 300 percent mission gains, and a 20 percent rise in general expenses. Total church funding reached 11,060 with 1,882 for missions. 3,000 was spent on parsonage and church improvements.
The Cemetery and Improvement association held a Tuesday meeting to elect officers for the coming year. Mrs L H Smalley declined renomination but was overruled and remains president with a slate including Mrs M M Payne cemetery secretary and others. The group will operate in two departments and meet twice monthly. A separate war related family note reports casualties and austere conditions in Germany, with seven brothers serving and a wounded nephew.
The Berean young men’s class of the Christian Sunday school met at Rev. B H Coonradt’s home Tuesday evening February 2 celebrating Lloyd Ward’s and Mr Coonradt’s birthdays. They enjoyed games refreshments and a marshmallow roast. Officers elected include Pres Joe Mohler Vice Pres Alvin Ward Lee Clarence McDonald and Treas Lloyd Ward.
Monday evening the local Odd Fellows entertained members and guests, about ninety attended a delightful musical program followed by a large spread. Two long tables overflowed with food, halls were prettily decorated, and the event was noted as a social success of the season.
Chas. Hazlett arrived in a bob sled with about fifteen young people for a box supper and play at Sunny Slope school last Friday evening. Twenty six boxes sold at good prices, and the evening drew much laughter from the attendees.

Martin Glasscock was arrested Saturday night on charges of forging two checks, one for 15 dollars on Ed Smith and another for 2 dollars on James Wyse. He had a Monday hearing and was bound over to await grand jury action. He remains in the Sidney jail.
