George McKean reports North of Town events as residents prepare for snow, with households from Ames to Council Bluffs sharing visits and moves. Thanksgiving scenes fill the week with dinners, hospital stays, farm matters, and local notices including aid meetings, school changes, and a hospital quilt project.
Boost for the Band Hamburg reports progress as new and old players unite to form a community band. They urge local financial help to buy two instruments, a cornet horn and a bass, noting no single member can bear the cost. The group, well organized and led by dedicated community men, asks residents to meet the need and support its growth. Also, Mr and Mrs John Wright and daughter Helen plan to move to Sleeper Massachusetts to farm, and will be missed locally.
A luncheon at the North Liberty school celebrates Captain Wall leaving the service. Miss Jessie Antrim attended as guest of Private Albert L. Berking, with decor in red and green, a fine dinner, and souvenir folders for guests. Music, dancing, and a cozy rest room with Victrola characterized the holiday event.
Anthony Buhr of Wint Good Place south of town died November 28 1918 after influenza on November 14 developed into pneumonia. He was 37 born August 24 1881 in Dubois County Indiana. Funeral at St Marys Hamburg with burial in local Catholic cemetery. He leaves a wife five children three brothers one sister and many friends. Also notes county Farm Bureau winners in boys and girls clubs with top scorers William Long Sidney Harold Lair Tabor Franklin Green Tabor Harold Martin Thurman and Eula Rosseau Hamburg. Embargo on poultry shipments lifted by American Railroad Express Company.
