The Bunker reports a strong working bee at Guyra Golf Club with fences repaired and two practice areas tidied. Water must recede from the 11th and 15th fairways before play resumes in a few months. A second bee is planned in about a fortnight with a hoped 40 members present.
Inverell and Guyra clash in a 4 4 on Sunday morning with Inverell opening the score. Guyra scorers include Shirley Parry Pat ODonnell and Beryl Cameron. Guyra forwards and Valma Hayden Betty Starr Laurel Campbell excelled in defence. Guyra Agrade to travel to Tamworth for three matches in the Tamworth carnival with sixteen teams expected.
A Guyra Shire Council meeting of delegates listed nine clubs for the season including Ben Lomond Bald Blair Ollera Glenore Llan-gothlin and Falconer with Tenterden still a possibility. District selectors are J Stewart E A Mulligan and K Mulligan.
A softball match at the recreation grounds last Saturday saw Central School beat a Youth Club team by 39 runs to 26. The game drew keen interest and organizers hope for more matches soon.
Glen Innes defeats Guyra in both A and B grade social fixtures. Scorelines show W Parker and P Pym, and many another pair, winning several sets while Guyra accumulates far fewer games overall. Second team matches also lean Glen Innes with totals Glen Innes 20 sets 186 games, Guyra 17 sets 167 games.
Strong winds plagued the Glen Innes and Guyra Rifle Clubs during a Sunday match at the Glen Innes range. Glen Innes won the aggregate 1516 to 1277 as J Green of Guyra led at 300 yards and A Pettit of Glen Innes topped at 500 yards with A Newman second overall.
