American plant breeder George Warner, visiting Australia at the invitation of the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, will assist, including experiments to frostproof 15 apricot trees, speed up crops by three weeks, and treat 3500 tomato plants to boost yield by 20 to 40 percent and advance harvest by three weeks. If successful, 800,000 tomato plants may be treated in a year. other prospects include tung oil, pecan, and macadamia nuts. Hormones in growing plants enable precise control of growth.
