Flood control plan for Gorge dam power output
Federal Minister for Health Sir Earle Pages outlined Gorge dam prospects last Thursday. The dam could hold 2,500,000 acre feet of water to generate power, with survey work suggesting adding 1,750,000 acre feet more to reach 4,250,000 acre feet. The extra capacity would match roughly the volume of water rushing down the Clarence River in June. A specially designed power station would release flood water to supply extra power over weeks, avoiding impact on the Lower Clarence River.
