For years efforts to appoint a local C P S have failed. At a show last week shire president Mr W L Green met with Deputy Premier Mr Brunner who pledged to urge the justice minister. Registers of births marriages and deaths currently go to Tingha causing inconvenience. If no local C P S is appointed the acting C P S could act as registrar, a plan Mr Bruxner supported as reasonable and likely to be granted.
At the Arm Quarter Sessions on Tuesday John Irwin and William John Tests faced conspiracy charges over a dog trading scheme alleged to defraud Edmund Procurence and others of large sums. Isles and others testified to alleged police coercion while denying direct blows, with Superintendent O Brien defending his conduct. the jury found both men guilty of conspiracy and Isles of false pretences. The judge imposed nine months with hard labour for conspiracy and nine months for false pretences, to run concurrently.
At Saturday's meeting Lauren Armitage presided and the branch approved a street stall before Me We Gillies dental surgery on March 2. Cakes fruit and vegetables will be welcome. The March meeting moves to March 2. Three delegates for General Conference in Sydney April 24 to 26 will be chosen. A ball on July 16 marks the branch anniversary. Jock Hobbs retires from cricket after long Surrey career with notable feats.

A fourteen hole flag competition at Guyra Golf Club on Wednesday ends with Miss Mclean winning by a few inches at the fourteenth hole. Mrs. Macgwick and Mrs. Mitchell also scored well on the 14th green and 1st fairway with Miss Stewart on the 12th fairway. Next week features a fourteen hole bogey competition.
J Crawford and V Merrath spoke hopeful ly of Australia Davis Cup victory at a Lawn Tennis Association farewell. Amateurs may soon be paid to appear in films per LTA proposal. Duke of Portland refuses to preside at Lots Cricket Club meeting citing insult to Dr Gould. Domain Oaths results show Noel Ryan won 440 yard amateur title in 4 40. Jean is runner up and Andrew Charlton third. Hy HK Biddulph dominates under 146 boys championships. Phil Awick outpoints Herb Bishop in Sydney Stadium bout. Imperial team to play Black Mountain at Mack Mountain Saturday.
The Divisional Returning Officer Mr EH A Jackson cautions that correct electoral enrolment is compulsory and transfer of enrolment or address change within the subdivision must be notified. Penalties may follow noncompliance. electors should update enrolment now as rolls close when writs are issued and claim cards are available at post offices and electoral registrars.
An event at Waverley on Saturday in March 1945 offers a £20 prize. The programme includes other events with proceeds benefiting BBD Dale Orphanage St Matrick's funds and the Armidale District Ambulance. Promoters are Aberfoil Haji and A Grills.
The prize money from the recent show will be available after 1 oclock on Saturday and can be collected at the Secretary's Office. A A Brown serves as Secretary.
